Process Simulation
Trimeric routinely uses state-of-the-art process simulation software tools, and Trimeric personnel have experience using nearly every type of process simulation software that is used in chemical process engineering.
Software & Approach
Trimeric typically uses the following commercial software packages:
- Aspen Engineering Suite
- Aspen Plus
- HYSYS
- Aspen Dynamics
- Economic Evaluation
- Capital Cost Estimator
- Exchanger Design and Rating
- And other software contained in the Aspen Engineering Suite
- VMG Sim
- WinSim DESIGN II
- SimSci PIPEPHASE
- FlowPhase AQUAlibrium
Trimeric has used other simulation tools including OLI, ProTreat, Pro/II, ProMax, and numerous others at our clients’ request.
Trimeric routinely validates simulation results against plant or literature data to verify that the proper thermodynamic basis is being used in the simulation and that all of the required physical property data are available. Many Trimeric simulation projects have included the modeling of literature and experimental data in order to obtain valid thermodynamic parameters for the simulation software. Trimeric has deep experience developing atypical simulations that require the preparation of specialized property packages. When consistent with the client’s requirements and the data available, Trimeric utilizes Capital Cost Estimator to develop early-phase capital cost estimates. These estimates are often validated using an extensive in-house inventory of budgetary and firm vendor quotes for similar equipment.
Project Examples

- Predicted liquid/liquid, solid/liquid, and vapor/liquid equilibria for sulfur recovery processes
- Simulated amine systems for acid gas removal from natural gas and H₂S removal from CO₂
- Evaluated well tubing sizes vs. desired production rates for determination of need to change tubing sizes
- Developed simulation of hydrotreating system for mixture of sour natural gas liquids, predicted effects of the type of H₂S removal system on hydrogen purity and system cost
- Predicted solubility curves for sulfur in multicomponent mixtures for crystallizer design
- Prepared simulation and process designs for new de-isobutanizer and de-methanizer columns
- Simulated physical solvent systems for selective H₂S removal in the presence of CO₂
- Used rate-based simulation models to design new packed tower scrubbers for several acid gas removal applications
